Operational strategy for institutions that steward capital.

Stratus advises hedge funds, family offices and trading firms on how the operation itself should work — the operating model, the execution stack, the risk framework and the roadmap to automate the desk. The same firm that builds these systems helps you decide which ones deserve to exist.

/ 01 — Where we engage

Advice from people who also carry the pager.

We advise on the questions we answer for ourselves every day — because our engineers and researchers run these systems in production, not from the sidelines.

01

Operational strategy & target operating model

How the firm should actually run — mandates, functions, reporting lines and the systems underneath them, designed as one coherent model rather than a diagram on a slide.

02

Execution design

Order flow, broker and venue setup, allocation logic and the controls between decision and fill — engineered around how your desk actually trades, not how a vendor assumes it does.

03

Risk frameworks & governance

Limit structures, escalation paths, committee cadence and the monitoring that makes a risk policy enforceable in the moment — rather than aspirational in the annex.

04

Technology selection & vendor rationalization

An unsentimental audit of the stack: what to keep, what to replace, what to build — with total cost of ownership, switching risk and lock-in made explicit before you sign.

05

Desk automation roadmaps

A sequenced plan to take manual work off the desk — prioritized by operational risk removed and hours returned to the team, not by whatever is fashionable this quarter.

06

A mandate that doesn't fit a box

Most engagements begin as a specific irritation, not a category. Describe the problem as you see it — we will tell you plainly whether we are the right firm for it.

/ 02 — Who we serve

Firms where the operation is the edge.

Different structures, the same underlying question: does the machinery of the firm match the ambition of its mandate?

Hedge fundsOperating models and execution design for managers whose returns depend on infrastructure keeping pace with research.
Multi-family officesMandate structures, consolidated oversight and technology that respects how families actually hold and delegate capital.
Proprietary desksGovernance without bureaucracy — controls that protect the book without slowing the trade that pays for everything.
Wealth managersAdvisory and discretionary operations — client reporting, mandate administration and the systems that hold both together.
BrokeragesExecution and client infrastructure — the operational plumbing between the front office and everyone downstream of it.
/ 03 — How an engagement runs

From situation to roadmap, in writing.

Advisory work at Stratus runs on the same rails as our engineering: a defined scope, visible milestones and conclusions you can hold us to.

01

Situation review

We sit with the desk, the operations team and the systems — and map how the firm actually runs, including the workarounds that never appear on the org chart.

02

Findings & options

You receive a written diagnosis and a short list of realistic options, each with cost, risk and sequencing made explicit. No fifty-page deck; a document a principal can act on.

03

Decision & roadmap

We help you choose, then convert the choice into a sequenced roadmap — owners, milestones, dependencies and a date the board can plan around.

04

Execution support

Where the roadmap calls for building, our own engineers and researchers deliver it. One firm from recommendation to production — nothing is lost in handover.

Discretion is a working condition, not a courtesy.

Much of this work is conducted under NDA, and we treat that as the default rather than the exception. We do not name advisory clients, publish engagement details or reuse material between mandates — and where a client requires it, we are comfortable being entirely un-referenceable. What we can share, in a private conversation, is how we think about problems like yours. Book a briefing and judge the thinking directly.

Bring us the operating problem.

A desk that has outgrown its stack, a risk framework that exists only on paper, a build-versus-buy decision with real money behind it — tell us where it hurts. We'll come back with a view and a plan.
